Their standout feature is a design that allows the pipe to sit upright without a flattened bottom, keeping the tobacco in the chamber and the stem off the surface.

  • Key features include:
  • Unique Balance: The design ensures the pipe balances upright on its bowl.
  • Whisky Inspiration: The pipes are inspired by "a potent bottle of Chieftain's whiskey".
  • Filter Compatibility: They are designed to fit a 9mm filter.
  • Collector's Item: They are described as unique collector's pipes.

The pipe you see is the pipe you get. This pipe came to us from a private collection, and where necessary, has been expertly restored by a local craftsman. This pipe was previously smoked but has been completely and professionally reconditioned and sanitized. Because it has been pre-owned, the price is drastically reduced compared to what this pipe would cost new (assuming that you could even find it). We stand behind these pipes; if you ever have an issue, return it to us for repair or refund.

About Molina Italian Tobacco Pipes

For aficionados and casual smokers alike, Molina represents a compelling chapter in the long story of Italian pipe making—a tradition that emphasizes quality materials, functional design, and the enduring charm of “Made in Italy” craftsmanship. Rooted in history yet practical for contemporary use, Molina pipes strike a balance between artisan heritage and accessible smoking pleasure.

Molina’s story begins in the heart of Northern Italy, in the Lombardy region near Varese. The company’s origins are intertwined with the historic Fabbrica di Pipe di Radica Rossi, founded in Barasso in the late 19th century. Rossi was once one of the largest pipe manufacturers in the world, producing thousands of briar pipes daily and exporting widely, particularly to the U.S. market. When Rossi ceased operations in the mid-1980s, Molina emerged from the remains of that famed factory, inheriting not just the workspace but also machinery, production methods, and decades-old craftsmanship secrets.

At the heart of every Molina pipe is Italian briar, the classic wood of pipe making prized for its heat resistance, durability, and ability to deliver a smooth, flavorful smoke. The briar is carefully selected and aged, then shaped through a sequence of many manual steps—often over six hours—to create a finished pipe that performs well and feels balanced in the hand. Traditional techniques blend with modern technology in the production process, giving each pipe a distinctive character while maintaining consistent quality.

Molina offers a broad range of pipe shapes and styles. From classic billiards and bent pot designs to more contemporary silhouettes, each model reflects the Italian design sensibility: functional, elegant, and comfortable to smoke. Many models incorporate 9 mm filters, appealing to smokers who prefer a smoother, cooler experience, though unfiltered options are also available.

Collectors and everyday smokers appreciate Molina’s attention to detail and the variety of finishes—from smooth, polished grains to sandblasted textures—allowing each pipe to express its own aesthetic. While higher-end brands may garner more acclaim, Molina’s offerings are often praised for delivering solid performance at accessible price points.

In the pipe community, Molina is often described as a reliable and versatile choice—especially for those starting their smoking journey or seeking a dependable everyday pipe. Many owners enjoy the straightforward nature of a Molina pipe: it’s comfortable to hold, pleasant to smoke, and rooted in a genuine Italian tradition that dates back over a century. Although anecdotal opinions vary, the brand has earned respect for combining Italian heritage with broad appeal.

Molina Italian tobacco pipes represent the spirit of traditional pipe making adapted for the modern smoker. With roots in a historic Italian factory and a continued commitment to craftsmanship and innovation, Molina continues to offer pipes that are not only functional tools but also pieces of Italian smoking culture—accessible, beautifully made, and richly tied to the heritage of briar.
